Tension rod length
Especially shallow drums often have shorter tension rods, so it’s worth checking before mounting your SnapMax.
To install SnapMax, you’ll attach its mounting brackets under two of your drum’s tension rods.
For this, your rods need to be long enough to reach the lugs securely after adding the bracket thickness.
Most drums work fine with their original rods — but we’ve seen a few where the stock rods were too short or only barely caught the threads, creating an unstable mount and risking damage to the lug or rod threads.
How to check your rods:
- Tune your drum to your normal playing tension.
- Completely remove one tension rod.
- Place it back on the hoop without screwing it into the lug.
- Measure the gap between the hoop and the underside of the rod’s head.
✅ Ideal: 18 mm or more
⚠️ Minimum (risky): 13 mm
(The mounting bracket adds 9 mm of thickness.)
Optimal gap for installation.
Optimal gap with block for reference.
We’re planning to offer tension rods in various lengths through our webstore once the Founders Edition is sold out. For now, you can refer to St.Drums if you need longer tension rods.
